Support Independent Journalism: Spring Subscription Special is Here!
Welcome to my new subscribers...here's a way to help independent writing at a lower-than-usual rate!
It may be the middle of the hottest time of the year here in Bangkok but I know that winter is fading away in a lot of the world and spring has sprung. So I thought, what better time to launch a Spring Subscription Special?
Over the past few months, I’ve been stepping up my game to market Coffee, TV & Me here on Substack (I still don’t know if the NOTES feature works well but it seems to be the best way to reach other Substackers) as well as on various social media outlets. That doesn’t mean I am going to reconfigure the subject matter my regulars come here to read. For example, you’re always going to get TV coverage from me whether it’s interviews (like the ones I did recently with the cast of The White Lotus), information on how to watch a buzzy show like The Chosen as it begins to run season 5 in theaters before it airs exclusively on Amazon’s Prime Video, reaction pieces when some TV is just too good to not write about (like Netflix’s excellent limited series Adolescence), updates on our cats Mango and Miso as well as travel-centric posts since I have been taking advantage of living in Southeast Asia. I also plan on hitting more Bangkok coffee shops to make sure the title of this page stays accurate!

How can you help? I know there are other Substack newsletters that only charge for their content and that may work great for them but, for now anyway, I’m still happy for those free subscribers that have been growing so much in 2025. (Welcome, new subscribers!) That said, it’s also heartwarming to welcome new paying subscribers whether they pay monthly and annually to help support what I’m doing here. I’m a freelancer at heart writing for U.S. outlets like Variety, Los Angeles Times, Emmy Magazine and IndieWire but this is a space where I can curate to not only my interests but my subscribers’ interests.
That’s why I thought of running another special that will take 20% off a subscription whether it’s a new or existing. So if you’ve been keeping a free subscription so far and like what you’ve been seeing, I encourage you to sign up for a paid subscription via the special link at the bottom of this post. And if you are a paying subscriber, you can save some dollars by signing up again for another year.
Here’s how the subscription cost breaks down: For monthly subscribers, instead of $8 USD per month, for the next year you’d only pay $6.40 USD each month. If you’re more into an annual subscription, instead of $80, you’ll pay $60.40 USD for the next twelve months. Not bad, right? Just click the “Spring Special Here” button below. If you have any issues, please contact me at jimhalterman@gmail.com and I’ll help as soon as possible.
Above all else, whether you remain a free member, change to a paying subscriber or have always been a paid subscriber, I thank you. I really love what I’m doing here and it just gives me more incentive to keep going with all your support.
Also, feel free to leave me a comment if there’s a topic or subject matter you’d like to see more of, less of or have ideas for things I haven’t even thought of doing yet. Any idea is a good idea.
Until next time…
