'White Lotus' Stars Sam Nivola & Sarah Catherine Hook Break Down Those Wacky Ratliffs
What is really going on between the three dysfunctional siblings...especially after the events in episode 5 of the current third season?
[Spoiler Alert: Only read on and watch the video interviews if you’ve watched the April 16 episode of The White Lotus.]
Since the current third season of The White Lotus started last month, we’ve been entertained by the Ratliff family, that upper crust clan with varying views on life and their high status place in it.
Patriarch Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) is not enjoying this vacation in Thailand at the White Lotus property since he’s found out his entire business and his reputation are in jeopardy with some very bad things involving the FBI happening at home. The fact that he stole Gaitok’s gun makes us wonder what exactly he’s going to do with it.
Matriarch Victoria Ratliff (Parker Posey) only cares about her family (and her lorazepam) and clearly has some status issues when she’s making comments about the other guests at the hotel and just how amazing and perfect her children are.
Then there are the three Ratliff siblings with elder Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) bringing all his bro-ness to life and trying his best to steer 18-year old brother Lochlan (Sam Nivola) into believing the world is about making money and getting laid. In the middle is Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), who only wants her family to put away their phones and live in the present while she figures out how to tell her parents she wants to live in Thailand permanently and explore her spiritual path. Piper also wants to teach Lochlan a thing or two about life.
In the most recent episode (the fifth of the eight-episode season), Piper ended up stuck with her parents while Saxon and Lochlan stayed on the ship belonging to potential murderer Gary (aka Greg, played by returning cast member Jon Gries). The boys not only partied hard with Gary’s girlfriend Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) and fellow Lotus guest Chelsea (Aimie Lou Wood) but at one point the brothers locked lips…twice. What is going on?
While I can tell you from having seen next week’s episode that that story does continue, but there will be a lot of conversations about what happens there as well some of the other storylines.
For now, here’s an excerpt from my chat with Nivola and Hook from the recent junket in Bangkok where they explained the dynamic between the three Ratliff siblings. I have to wait until next week to post more because we talked about more of what’s coming on The White Lotus. Enjoy!
What did you think of the latest development with the Ratliffs in the episode as well as the other storylines. (Belinda, you in danger, Girl!) Leave me your thoughts in the comment. Any more thoughts on who you think will end up a corpse by the season’s end?
Also, here’s a preview of what’s to come on The White Lotus in episode six, airing March 23 on Max.
Until next time…
Can White Lotus be watched by season only, or if you skip a season will you be lost in seasons 2 and 3? I can’t quite tell from previews.
You really should watch from the start of Season 1. Even though it's a new cast and location for each season, one very important story has carried through all three seasons. Enjoy!!
