This Week in TV Show Trailers; Twisted Sisters, Feeding Phil and Loving 'Overcompensating'
'It' TV spin-off is scary AF, Nicole Kidman's Russian accent is back and no sophomore slump for 'Poker Face.'
Movie trailers have always been the rage and TV shows go there just as much especially given there is so much content these days. I posted the Season 4 trailer for FX’s The Bear earlier this week so here are more trailers for you to check out in my new featured post that you’ll see weekly…or bi-weekly…or whenever there are enough clips to fill a post. This week, there were a lot!
Over at Hulu, it’s another weird season of Nine Perfect Strangers, this time heading to the Austrian Alps for some rest, relaxation and Nicole Kidman with her Russian accent as controlling Masha Dmitrichenko. I’ve seen a few of the new episodes and I will hold off judgment until I see more but with a cast like Christine Baranski, Henry Golding, Annie Murphy, Mark Strong, Lena Olin, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and the always awesome Murray Bartlett, I’m definitely intrigued to watch more. The new season is out now with the first two episodes, new episodes dropping each Wednesday on Hulu.
If you like juicy family dramas with a dose of murder, cheating and lies, then you’ll want to check out Prime Video’s The Better Sister, which drops next week on May 29. It stars Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as estranged sisters with a lot of baggage between them (for good reason as the story unfolds). I had the chance to see some episodes and quickly got sucked in so I have a feeling you’ll feel the same. The trailer alone should suffice in peaking your interest.
I loved Stephen King’s It book, really enjoyed both theatrical movies so it only makes sense that HBO Max would eventually bring us a TV horror series, doesn’t it. The HBO Max release says: “Set in the world of Stephen King’s It universe, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on King’s It novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films.” The cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård. No release date other than Fall 2025.

Sorry Stanley Tucci but my favorite food show has got to be Somebody Feed Phil, which, in the simplest of terms, is just a joy to watch. Not only do you learn about food via the many places around the world visited but Phil’s infectious enthusiasm and love for food will always buoy your spirits.
Season 8 is coming with Phil visiting cities like Amsterdam, Las Vegas, Manila and Australia’s Sydney and Adelaide and based on the sneak peek below, Phil’s Everybody Loves Raymond pals Ray Romano and Brad Garrett join him for some feasting in at least one episode. The new episodes drops June 18 on Netflix. (And Tucci is a close second place if you were wondering!)
Not every show that has a strong first season is able to sustain it into its second season (Lost is a good example). So I breathed a big sigh of relief once I started watching the second season of Peacock’s Poker Face and found that it’s as good as its first season. Besides just always feeling fresh with the weekly crime, the show also uses guest stars (like Cynthia Erivo playing five characters in the premiere episode) better than any other show out there. And I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I could listen to star Natasha Lyonne say “bullshit” (which her character Charley Cale says whenever she hears someone lying) on a loop. Here’s an extended clip from the latest excellent episode with guest stars Rhea Perlman, Simon Helberg, Chris Bauer, Richard Kind and John Mulaney, now airing on Peacock:
Documentary. Funeral Home. Crafty goings on. I’m in. (The new documentary series drops on June 1 on HBO).
Earlier this week, Apple TV+ released the first teaser trailer for historical drama Chief of War, starring, written and executive produced by Jason Momoa. Per the release: “Set amidst the beautiful backdrop of the islands of Hawai‘i, the nine-episode series based on true events, follows warrior Ka’iana, portrayed by Momoa, as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century. "Chief of War” will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, August 1, 2025 followed by new episodes every Friday through September 19.” Here’s the trailer:
Marvel series and movies have been hit or miss the past few years but I have hope for Ironheart, the TV spin-off from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever starring Dominque Thorne reprising her role as Riri Williams, aka Ironheart. The limited series is coming to Disney+ on June 24.
Also, Prime Video’s Compensating dropped last weekend and I quickly devoured all eight entertaining episodes about college freshman Benny (creator/writer Benito Skinner) navigating coming out. Above all else, the show will make you laugh and also finds moments to be touching. I’m ready to dive into my second viewing NOW! Streaming now.
