Some Joyful Things
In a rough week, I know I needed some joy so here is a sampling of things to make you smile for a minute or so (or so I hope)!
The creative juices aren’t flowing too well this week given the results of the U.S. election so, leaving the political writing to others and not wanting to dwell on what went wrong or how I’m personally feeling about it all, I have found myself looking at fun, joyful things to remind myself that all is not lost and despair isn’t the only road we can take moving forward.
So, here are some joyful things I needed this week - maybe they’ll help you, too.
RIP Teri Garr, who passed away on October 29…here’s one of my favorite scenes of hers from 1982’s Tootsie.
The opening to 2016’s La La Land. There’s so many things I love about this movie and this elaborate opening sequence (choreographed by the amazing Mandy Moore) is one I can’t not watch!
And since Emma Stone isn’t really in the opening number, I had to include this memorable appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when she kicked Fallon’s ass during a Lip Sync Battle.
And from the TV sitcom archives…
Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) finding out the friends Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Monica (Courteney Cox) are sleeping together.
…the original run of NBC’s Will and Grace became a sitcom known for getting some huge stars to guest star either playing themselves (lookup Cher’s appearances on the show) or, as in this 2002 clip featuring Matt Damon as Owen, a man who auditions for the NYC Gay Men’s Chorus, much to the chagrin of Jack (Sean Hayes). The whole episode is fantastic but here’s when we first meet the character.
…and while this Brady Bunch episode is often left off from any streaming platforms, presumably for music rights, you can always trust someone will have posted it on YouTube. (It’s the main reason why I bought the series box set years ago!)
and music is always a great escape and several weeks later since its release but I still am not tired of ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ video for APT.
What are some of your joyful things? Send them this way and maybe I’ll include it in an upcoming roundup since I think posts like these are going to be necessary for the next four years and beyond.
Until next time…
JIM
Makes me want to watch Tootsie. Soo long since I’ve seen that.
